Safari Park

Yesterday my sister and I took the kiddos to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, otherwise known as the Wild Animal Park. It was a lot of fun, she pushed them around in our snazzy new double stroller and I waddled along behind trying to keep up. The weather was beautiful, and I think we managed to see quite a bit, it was just nice to get out and go somewhere! Before we headed down, we went out to breakfast. I was hoping to fill Clara up to the brim so maybe I wouldn't have to feed her so many snacks once we were there. She managed to eat...half a banana before we left the house, the rest of the banana mixed in with baby oatmeal at the restaurant, then two sausages, some scrambled egg, and half a pancake...once we got our food. Oh, and lots of whole milk. However, as soon as we got there, she began to fuss and smack her lips, which is how she tells me she's hungry. I couldn't believe it! Luckily I never leave the house without a million snacks, so I was just breaking them out as we went. This girl can eat, but I don't know where she puts it! She was in a great mood the whole day, and behaved really well, yay!

Riding the tram...

Eating some of her snacks...I would try to point out an animal and she would be more concerned about asking for more...is this normal? At least she says please!

You ask Clara to smile...and she says, "Cheese!" Then she gives you cheese, she is so goofy!

She loved the petting zoo...

...but wasn't too sure about sitting on a large rhino ;)

I am trying to take advantage of having only one kid at the moment. Even though simple tasks seem insurmountable with my large belly. But soon I will have two, and then I'm not sure I am going to leave the house! Any tips or advice from you mom's out there that have two or more? How do you manage to leave the house, in between two napping schedules, packing an endless amount of food for the older one, and nursing the younger. I'll let my mom friends of only one know my tricks once I learn them!

P.S. I do have to add that Clara isn't always the best eater, breakfast is her hungriest time. After that she can be very fickle, such as not liking something she loved the day before. She also loves to snack, and after breakfast I have a hard time getting her to eat other real meals. So don't worry, she is not the perfect eater, she is still your typical toddler!

I read something the other day that is so true, especially for mama's:

"You can do anything. But you can't do everything."

You'll find your own groove and way of getting things done! Promise. ; )

The picture of the 2 of them in the stroller is ridiculously cute!

haha, sam eats the same way. i think he eats his entire day's calories at breakfast and then after that its a chore to get him to eat lunch or dinner. but dirt or sand? he's always in the mood to munch on those yummy things!

re. getting out of the house... i'm struggling with the same thought of how to get THREE kids out the door! i need to get out to stay sane though, and i remember that when sam was a newborn, i'd mostly meet friends at their homes where i'd be more comfortable nursing and where the baby could sleep easily. or better yet, i'd invite a friend w/ kids over to my house for a playdate and the baby's schedule wouldn't be disrupted one bit!

our outings were very short at first and then, as the baby grew up and could handle longer stretches between feeds & naps, we'd venture out more. still, i remember a particularly horrific experience when i took both boys to the zoo by myself for the day when sam was about 3 months old. never to be repeated again!

backseat. One other thing I've learned along the way....you can fudge each kid's schedule....it really won't kill them. Over time, they start to get synchronized. But there were plenty of times I walked around the store with at least one crying child. You just learn to smile and nod at people around you as though it doesn't bother you one bit. (You will also learn to shop at night when your hubby is at home and the kids are asleep....lol)
You are going to do great! We are really excited for you guys!

Okay so don't know what happened to the rest of my comment...oops. I'll try to reproduce it: Get a baby carrier if you don't have one and use it! Glory slept in my wrap so much! I had a hard time getting into my head though that I could only do one errand at a time in the beginning....not 8. And plan to do the whole errand all morning, that way when you have to sit in the car and nurse the baby and your toddler is getting restless in the backseat you won't be stressed out that you have 9 other places to go.

It is SO overwhemling to get out of the house with a toddler and newborn! But like Heidi said, you need to do it to stay sane!! You just pick little things in the beginning... a friends house, or oddly enough a trip through drive thru. It's not much but gets you out of the house. As far as grocery store or errands, we are not that skilled yet and the idea is rather scary. For now we will stick to only going to the park with friends that can help or my little drive-thru bits. I know it wont last like this forver, so it's ok. Good luck Breanna, its good that your getting out now and doing fun things then it wont be too bad taking a break for a little while :)
