Beach Camping & Birthday

After the rainy week we had, we were seriously considering canceling our beach camping reservations for Jordan's birthday. However, the forecast was calling for sun, and we decided to head down to South Carlsbad State beach for what turned out to be an amazing weekend! The weather was cold but BEAUTIFUL. I love the beach in the winter, and we had a blast playing games, barbecuing, having a bonfire and hanging out with family. I think Clara had fun on her first camping trip. We borrowed a trailer from a co-worker of Jordan's, and I think that was a smart idea for camping in the winter with a baby. I think we might need to look into purchasing a tent trailer or something similar to that. I love our little family of three, I definitely think that a baby adds so much fun and enjoyment to anything you are doing. You can't help but look at Clara and smile and laugh at how cute she is getting.

The sun was a bit bright for Clara.

Jesse & Holly are always good for some entertainment!

Jordan's birthday present from the families...a new long board skateboard.

Alissa & Jon before taking a walk along the beach with Brady.
Going out to breakfast to celebrate Jordan's birthday.

I am so thankful for having such a wonderful family to spend time with. Happy 26th birthday Jordan! You are an amazing husband and father, and such a hard worker for our family. We are truly blessed to have you in our lives!

Lately...

Can you believe all this rain we are getting lately? I am loving it! I have always been a weather girl, I love storms and umbrellas, rain boots and coats, blankets and warm houses. I haven't blogged in a while, there hasn't been anything too exciting going on lately. I started working again, and so far so good. It is probably the most ideal situation you could ask for with a baby. My job is only 5 minutes away, and they are letting me work when Jordan is home, so one of us is always with Clara. It has been nice being back to work, I love my job and the people I work with. The only tricky situations are when Jordan gets held over or picks up extra shifts, which happens pretty frequently. In those cases I can't work or I have to go in late and I hate being unreliable. In other news, the gloomy weather has brought gloomy health for my dad. He is currently in the hospital with a lung infection and fluid in his lungs. This is very serious for a cancer patient and we are bracing for the worst. My dad is the ultimate fighter though, and we have learned to not underestimate him. The very difficult and sad reality is that he is suffering daily beyond belief, and one can't help but wish his entrance into heaven would come quickly and as painlessly as possible. This little girl below is the apple of his eye, and the bright spot of his day. Clara is getting cuter and cuter every day. She is SO much fun, I love watching her exploring the world around her. She is rolling both ways, laughing, touching her toes, and making so many funny noises!
Life is full of joy and trials. I am learning to be thankful for the time you have on earth, and to make the most of each day and the people you love around you. My family could definitely use your prayers in this time, especially my mom and dad as this is extremely difficult to deal with. Thank You!

Big Bear 2009

We just got home from our annual Big Bear trip. This trip has been going on since my freshman year of high school, so that means this was our 11th year going. Although, I must say this year was by far one of my favorites. It probably has a big thing to do with the fact that this was Clara's first trip of many to Big Bear, having a baby at the cabin was so much fun. We snowboarded, played games, shopped around town, went bowling, and spent great quality time with wonderful friends and family. It was a four day trip and as we all said goodbye this morning and headed our own ways, I think we all had a little tear in our eyes because it was the end of a beautiful time. I know that sounds cheesy, but those are the moments that I want to remember.

Heading out to go snowboarding (and no we didn't take Clara, the grandmas babysat her for the day)...

On New Year's Eve we went to a torch parade on Snow Summit, it was just down the road from our cabin so we walked over to watch it. It was a fun way to start the festivities. We played games until the midnight countdown and then set off a pretty respectable fireworks display.

On New Year's day we went bowling, it was girls vs. boys. They beat us and I'm pretty sure it was my fault. I did terrible, I think my score was below 50 :(

Cabin life was pretty mellow, the two middle nights were pretty crowded with about 20 people. In our room which was pretty small, was me and Jordan, my mom, my friend Shauna, and Clara slept in a box on the floor because there wasn't room for her pack n' play. There were so many beds in the cabin, even the closet doors had been taken out and beds were in the closets so you could sleep as many people as possible, but that makes it fun!

We went out to a fabulous BBQ dinner at a place on the lake for our last night. It was our Christmas present from Jordan's Grandpa Don.

Thanks Grandpa Don!

Holly knitted the most adorable hat for Clara while we were up there. It is my favorite thing ever and I think she is going to wear it every day until she grows out of it!

What a great way to end one year and start another! This last year has been full of many blessings and struggles. It brought the birth of our beautiful daughter, who has greatly enriched our lives. However, we have also watched as my dad is getting weaker and weaker everyday, as he is nearing the end of his long battle with cancer. I am so thankful that God is in control and holds our life in his hands. Happy New Year!
